This recipe was inspired by Epicurious and was originally with lamb. I made some tweaks and I hope you like it.

Meatballs

  • 1/3 cup minced onion
  • 1 large garlic clove, minced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • a pinch cinnamon
  • 1 pound ground Turkey
  • 1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg, beaten lightly
  • 2 tablespoons dried currants
  • 1/4 cup white sesame seeds, toasted lightly

Minted yogurt dip:

  • 2 cups plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup packed fresh mint leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste

Preperation:

Sieve the yogurt overnight in the refrigerator and dump the excess liquid. Mix the remaining yogurt together with the mint and salt.

In a small skillet cook onions and garlic for 5 minutes on low heat. Transfer to a bowl and add spices. Slowly add egg, currants, lamb, and bread crumbs until desired consistancy. If your a low carber, use less bread crumbs. Combine well and use a 1 inch spoon to help shape meatballs. Roll meatbals in another sperate bowl with sesame seeds until they are completely covered, and transfer to baking sheet. Bake at 450 for 8-10 minutes.

Serve with yogurt sauce poured over top.
