Bikram Yoga

Brikram yoga, a discipline of traditional yoga, usually has people workout in a warm to hot room doing various yoga poses, and flows. Finland is known for their spas, saunas, and healthy ways of living. This workout is bascially bodyweight exercises done in the sauna. Benefits of sauna bathing include…

  • increased metabolism
  • Improved muscle recovery
  • Release of toxins through skin

Saunas are good for your skin and may also help you lose weight. I would not recommend this to anyone who has a history of heart problems, or is on any medication, or other health issues. It is for people who are in shape, and looking to try something new. However, one study found no increased risk for people with heart conditions (1). I am not sure how these practices would hold up for long term health benefits, and have to look into the research some more. Saunas are also great for stretching, and help speed recovery which could help with any rehabilitation. Otherwise, definitely give it a try as it is a whole new experience and challenges the body in many different ways.
