I want to share with you some success stories I have had with two ladies that have been training with me for quite some time. They have achieved the body they want, are living the life they want, and are two of the most comical ladies when they are trying to set up a circuit of squats, incline presses, and tricep push downs. Both came to me with goals of trying to lose weight and tone up. Julie came to me from a background of doing excessive group classes and endless cardio. Peggy came to me with a history of hardly any weight training experience at all. Currently they are crushing workouts together, and having a great time doing it.

Client #1

Julie

Height – 5’3″

Age – 61

Before @ 157 lb
After @ 141 lb
Results

Julie achieved great results, she lost over 20 lbs and 5% body fat, and lost over 14 inches total. The net weight loss/wk is just under one pound which is well under the established 2 lb/wk standard. These results will stick as long as she continues to maintain her fitness level and train on a regular basis. I don’t think the pictures showcase her transformation as well as the actual numbers, however amazing results none the less. Correction of forward head posture and kyphosis are emphasis in her workouts as well as strength training the proper muscle groups.

Surprisingly she came to me with a lack of trust in Personal Trainers, as her last one hurt her shoulder. Hopefully I have turned that perception around, but as an industry as a whole I can understand her perception. 90% of trainers these days are not qualified to do their job, lack the proper education, and do not try to expand their knowledge. Clients should always look for reputable organization like NSCA, ACSM qualifications, but also realize that I have come across many people with those certifications that are no better then the kid off the street. Good job Julie! keep it up.

Peggy

Height – 5’6″

Age – 68

Results

Just like Julie, Peggy was able to achieve similar results. She was able to lose over 30 lbs, achieve a 8% body fat reduction, and lost over 18 total inches. A body composition change of 8% body fat equates to 25 lbs of fat lost! Her weight loss averaged just under one pound/wk, which gave her body and metabolism time to adapt to the new weight and composition. Hormonal profile should be under more control from the lost weight and inches in the waist and hip area, which is where the fat tends to be more metabolically destructive. Correcting lordosis of the lumbar spine, and maintaining posture and strength are key priorities in her program. Peggy is almost 70 years old and goes to show anyone of any age can change their body, fantastic job peggy!

Conclusion

These results are easily attainable and sustainable for anyone of any age. We did not use any drugs, weight loss pills, sweat sessions, 2 day workouts, or crazy cardio bootcamps. The program was simple…Get them on a strength training program, do limited amounts of cardio, and feed them whole food recipes hoping they will one day make mashed cauliflower and broccoli. They both worked out together 2-3x/week, put the work in, and ate a healthy diet. There is no quick fix, it just requires hard work, dedication, and a little motivation and accountability.

p.s. I want to thank both Julie and Peggy for allowing me to post their pictures and results. Without them I would have nothing to share, and I wouldn’t have any fun on excel making up those graphs.
